The Chicago Cubs have spent the last 105 going on 106 seasons without the chance to celebrate a World Series victory. As a Cubs fan, I have only been on this earth for 21 of those seasons, and from the looks of our current Major League roster I will have to add another tally mark to that chart. However, despite the sorrowful history of my beloved Cubs, there is a hope on the horizon, and this t

A few weeks ago, fivethirtyeight.com published an interesting article that I believe sheds some light on the Cubs total rebuild. It was entitled, "What to Expect from Baseball America's Top 100 Prospects". http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/what-to-expect-from-baseball-americas-top-100-prospects/

My main takeaway - you need to do a better job of determining which of your top prospects are likely to succeed than simply acquiring "top" prospects.

This is something the Atlanta Braves of the 90's did with surgical precision. They dealt a bunch of top prospects but almost always dealt ones who would ultimately fail to live up to expectations.

While the future is bright, they still have a long way to go. They lack serious pitching depth throughout the entire organization and with Edwards' 6'2" 155 lbs. frame, he most likely will never be durable enough to be a front line starter. Theo and company have their work cut out for them as they need to get some more quality arms that are closer to the big leagues than the guys they have already acquired. I would expect that second-tier prospects such as Christian Villanueva, Dan Vogelbach, and Arismendy Alcantara to be dealt in order to accomplish this. Also, it's starting to look like the Jorge Soler deal isn't going to work out the way they planned. He can't stay healthy and has struck out way too much. He's still very young, but the Cubs will need his bat and athleticism moving forward. I am very high on the Cubs' farm system, but I feel like it is incomplete at the moment.

Now it is time for the most difficult region of the tournament that features 3 of the 4 teams that were in last year's Final Four. Here is the Midwest Region:

(1) Wichita State v. (16) Cal Poly

Cal Poly came into their play-in game tonight with the worst record in the field and shot a very efficient 57% from the field which kept Texas Southern off the boards and led them to a win. T

Just one more day of play-in games before the field of 64 tips off. With the South and West Regions' rd of 64 games analyzed, I now bring you the East Region:

(1) Virginia v. (16) Coastal Carolina

Virginia is a name that many people know but don't see as a powerhouse. While the Cavaliers lack explosiveness on the offensive side of the ball, it is their defense that got them where th

I'm actually glad to see both you and Mike Mazz have picked Harvard over Cinci. When filling out the bracket I thought that game might be a nice chance to buy low vs. a lot of other brackets (especially in the Boston area) on a seeded favorite. I wonder what the nation's actual pick percentage for Cinci and Harvard will be for that game?
