Vikings Brass Doing More for NFL than NFL

As a son raised by multiple "whoopings," I didn't want to rush a judgement of Adrian Peterson's indictment for child abuse in Montgomery County, Texas, much like NFL commissioner Roger Goodell didn't want to rush the judgement of Ray Rice. He ultimately did, however, rush to judgement when he should have been acquiring information. The public had no interest waiting for a punishment because the

My examples are not meant to be compared to that of Peterson's son. They are meant to prove a point about the ambiguous and subjective nature of child abuse. Child abuse is not determined by a judge or jury, but by the victim. I never felt my father's use of corporeal punishment warranted a call to the police, but I also have a cousin who called the police when her mother grabbed her wrist once. My aunt had never raised her hand to her before, but served a day in jail for something that didn't even leave a mark.

So "as a son raised by multiple whoopings," I have no problem with Peterson hitting his child on the butt with a switch. It's the injuries to the legs and scrotum that'll ultimately determine whether Peterson is guilty, and judging from early reports and Rusty Hardin's reputation, Peterson won't be found guilty.

I agree, my situation is different than Peterson's son's, but they're not meant to be comparable. They're simply meant as examples of the varying "degrees" of child abuse and how each person has their own idea of what child abuse looks like.

Those are some interesting thoughts. I would say that injuring a child during discipline would fall under "abuse." Your parent slapping you in the face with a spatula still hot with grease was not merely an "oops" but abusive. It doesn't fall under the "accident" category because your parent knew what he was doing. It's not the same as, say, tripping and falling and knocking your kid over by accident.

I know it's easy to say "I survived it and I'm fine" but even if that's 100% true, your experience is not the same as this 4 year old's experience.

Just some thoughts to consider.

Cordarrelle Patterson a Bigger, Badder Percy Harvin

last edited:09/14/2014 11:43pm

Few players have made bigger statements in the first week of NFL games than Percy Harvin and Cordarrelle Patterson. Harvin opened the NFL season with an impressive performance covering 100 total yards from scrimmage against a soft, but improved Green Bay defense. Harvin was most impressive in the run game, as he used to be in Minnesota, gaining 41 yards on four carries. He graced the

Gonzo Waiver Trades for Terry Ryan and the Minnesota Twins

08/17/2014 7:30pm

With the waiver trade deadline just two weeks away, Terry Ryan and the Minnesota Twins' front office still have some work to do despite unloading Josh Willingham and Kevin Correia for marginal returns and a few dollars they won't use. However, the veteran jettison has created roster spots for Trevor May and Tommy Milone, but the big problem in Minnesota now is a throng of young, capable bu

The Wildest MLB Trade Deadline Day I've Ever Seen

08/01/2014 1:20am
last edited:08/01/2014 2:51pm

In a wild MLB Trade Deadline Day that saw David Price to Detroit, Jon Lester and Jonny Gomes to Oakland for Yoenis Cespedes, John Lackey to St. Louis for Joe Kelly, and even Stephen Drew from Boston to the Yankees, Terry Ryan and the Minnesota Twins' front office can hold their heads relatively high. They locked up All-Star catcher Kurt Suzuki for two more years at $12 million with a slick vest
