Ben Koyack, TE, Notre Dame

6'5" 255 lbs.

Current: 68/80

Potential: 71/80

I'm definitely a lot higher on Ben Koyack than most. He's one-year starter after sitting behind NFL tight ends Tyler Eifert and Troy Niklas at Notre Dame. In his one year as a starter, his production was rather average: 30 catches for 317 yards and two touchdowns. So why is he so high on my board? To me, he's best all-around tight end I scouted. He's easily the best blocker in the class and is underrated threat in the passing game, he just was not utilized all that much.

He has good speed for the position and has the acceleration to stack his defender quickly. He runs pretty good routes, but he needs to work on finding the open hole in the defense which is what separates good tight ends from great ones. Jason Witten has built a Hall of Fame career on finding that soft spot in the defense. He's a natural hands catcher and has good concentration in traffic. He flashes the ability to high point the ball and can be a mismatch down the seam.

He is comfortable both inline and in the slot, but his true value lies with his ability as an inline blocking tight end. He has great understanding on how to seal turn in his defender to open up a hole. He has a solid initial punch and once he gets his hands inside on a defender, it's over. He has a strong base and always keeps his legs driving. He is a rare breed of tight end that can be a dynamic threat as a receiver and can be left alone on an island in pass protection and be more than serviceable.

I have a second round grade on him, but it appears as if he may be available as late as the fourth or fifth round. Players with his versatility are rare and should be valued as such. He reminds me a lot of Anthony Fasano, a great blocker with good hands and surprising athleticism.
