Bravo, NBA. Bravo.

The Donald Sterling affair has been a whirlwind of accusations, condemnations and denunciations. And according to the NBA's constitution, it will be over as quickly as it began.

Following commissioner Adam Silver's announcement of a lifetime ban for Sterling, a man $2.5 million fine and encouraging the owners to remove Sterling as owner of the Clippers, the NBA community has rejoiced. In Seattle, there is hope the vagabond franchise (Buffalo to San Diego to Los Angeles) might come to Seattle.

The move isn't unprecedented, as Marge Schott was forced to sell the Cincinnati Reds in 1999 after she made racist comments. It was the same situation where the tolerance of the group was exhausted by continual situations. It wasn't until the franchises were winning and in the spotlight that the comments reached a broad enough audience for the outcry to be large enough for a change to be instilled.

According to the NBA's constitution, there are deadlines at five and 10 days. Combine that with willing and hopeful owners -- Magic Johnson and his group, which currently owns the Dodgers, as well as Hanson and Ballmer from Seattle -- and it doesn't seem likely that Sterling will own the franchise for long.

The ultimate point here is that the NBA moved to do something that was morally-based. Silver made a decision based on what he thought was correct, what was the right thing to do. And he did it.

We live in a culture that is still moving toward total equality.

I think today is a landmark in how far we've come.
