College Football: America's Favorite Sport

11/05/2014 3:09am

We are in the middle of an exciting time for college football fans. It's the first year the sport has had a playoff system and it's long overdue. No matter what part of the country you travel to, you're going to meet college football fans...except maybe in Alaska. From Oregon to South Carolina, people love to rally behind their favorite team. They may be an alumnus of their university, or just

Jadeveon Clowney Was Never Staying

02/14/2014 3:03am
last edited:02/14/2014 1:58pm

Thanks to the snow storm that blanketed a majority of the southeast, there haven't been many sports stories for media outlets to report on. This meant that when Jadeveon Clowney went on "Jim Rome on Showtime" Wednesday night, anything interesting he said was likely to become big news.

As he did for most of his college career, Clowney delivered when he was needed.

When asked if he

Can't think of a relevant comment other than the fact that I agree 100% with this take. Good stuff Rixon.

Clowney is far and away the best prospect I've covered in recruiting and a once in a generation talent. There was never, ever a chance he was going to stay for his senior season. The real question is, despite an underwhelming junior season, does he still go No. 1?

Rank: The Three Most Disappointing Signing Classes of 2014

last edited:02/08/2014 1:58pm

Every year the SEC claims National Signing Day as its own, cultivating the talent breeding in the southeast. As far as the conference is concerned, there’s enough prospects to go around. When recent bottom tier SEC universities like Tennessee and Kentucky can crack the Top-20, it proves the conference is sitting on a bed of talent. This makes it an absolute necessity for non-SE

Good stuff Ethan

Texas - I agree that this was a disappointing class and finish to the class, but Strong was hired in early January. Auburn hired Mahlzan in early December and Ohio State inked Meyer in late November. During the most important recruiting time of the year, those weeks are incredibly valuable... Texas definitely needs an elite 2015 class...

Oregon - Perfect analysis here. As you pointed out, the main issue is that the Pac-12 has risen to become the clear, second best conference. While other programs are rising, Oregon may be staying the same.

Michigan - This one's tough. I believe the Wolverines had very limited scholarship numbers this year, hence the 16 member class. But it's hard not to notice that Peppers is probably they're only big recruiting "win" of this class (Drake Harris was injured for most of senior season). Another school with limited 'ships, USC, got their Peppers in Adoree' Jackson, plus 3-4 other highly coveted prospects in Juju, Mama, etc..

Great take!

Chip Kelly was clearly the secret sauce behind Oregon's success on field and on the trail and I'm not surprised that Helfrich has struggled to put together the same caliber of recruiting class.

Great take on Michigan. I completely agree that Hoke and company our out-classed and out-gunned by Meyer in Columbus. Plus, in an era where every team is profitable and trying to win, a school like Michigan, without a wealth of in-state talent is hard-pressed to compete.

Also, loved the shout out to Florida's Class of 2006. Tebow, Harvin and Spikes were all all-time great college players and the less-heralded guys, like Cunningham, Doe and Cooper all made a huge impact for the Gators during their careers.

SEC 2014 Schedule Rankings

02/07/2014 1:19am
last edited:02/07/2014 5:25pm

Once again, the SEC owned National Signing Day, with seven teams bringing in top-10 classes. Now, as the drama of NSD begins to fade, I thought it would be interesting to see who will face the most difficult challenges on the gridiron next season. Here's a countdown of the most difficult schedules in the SEC for 2014.

14. Vanderbilt

The Commodores get Ole Miss and Mississippi State

Now that's how you debut on WhattaPlay!

For the first time in a few years, the SEC is pretty wide open. Yes, Alabama is loaded but inconsistent quarterback play prevents any team from running the table in the best league next to the NFL. Fournette's a beast and will help people forget about Jeremy Hill, but LSU lost way too many key players to the NFL.

I think Auburn will be better next season and, in my opinion, is the best team in the West. Marshall will be even more effective next year and the offensive line returns those three maulers in the middle. And Malzahn is one damn good ball coach. I already can't wait for next season...

At the moment, I think South Carolina is in the best shape to win the East simply because they'll have an experience QB in Dylan Thompson. Would not surprise me at all to see Mizzou contend with Maty Mauk. I know Auburn was one touchdown from being the national champions, but it's hard to pick against Alabama in the West, especially with the Iron Bowl being in Tuscaloosa this season.
