A Layman's NFL Draft Study

Tom and I looked at the NFL production of every player drafted from 1994-2003. We chose these dates because 1994 was the year the draft went to 7 rounds and too many players drafted after 2003 are still active. Don't worry, we employed very basic math and instead focused on what kind of career you can expect based on where a player is drafted. Here are some nuggets from our spreadsheets:

A Statistical Analysis of College Quarterbacks’ Potential

Adam Ondo

There are four quarterbacks projected to go in the first round in this year’s draft. They are Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel, Central Florida’s Blake Bortles, Fresno State’s Derek Carr, and Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater. Two of the debates that analysts have been promoting with regards to these four quarterbacks are whether or not height or passing attempts in college are factors that will influen

Better Off Without Desean

The majority of Philadelphia Eagles fans were not pleased with the franchise's decision to cut Pro Bowl wide receiver and kick/punt returner Desean Jackson. Why would a team release a player that seems to fit perfectly into head coach Chip Kelly's high flying, up-tempo style of offense? Jackson is coming off a career season and is in the midst of his prime which makes that question even harder

Geauxing Geauxing Gone...

Alabama has had the clear cut top recruiting class coming into NSD, but has anyone made as big of a Signing Day splash as LSU? They already landed the overall top prospect in Fournette, but now they've added stud signings like the top wide receiver Malachi Dupre and Defensive End Sione Teuhema. Teuhema is only a 3-star prospect but with his commitment LSU also gets a commitment from his younger

Yeah Wade, after I posted that I saw USC start going on their recruiting run which was VERY impressive also. I have a friend who loves his Trojans so he was blowing up my phone about it all haha. I'm personally pretty bitter because Miss. St had the #2 JuCo DB committed but he flipped to Ole Miss without even visiting them. I'm not $aying $omething wa$ up, but $omething $mells fi$hy.

Matt - LSU definitely had a big day but I think USC gained the most on Wednesday. Sarkisian scored five-star CB Adoree' Jackson (over LSU), ESPN 300 prospects ATH Juju Smith and OG Damien Mama and three-star CB Lamont Simmons. Jackson, Smith and Mama became the top three players in USC's class. They're also the No. 1, 2 and 5 rated players in California (ESPN's rankings). With the additions, USC jumped 10 spots in ESPN's class rankings, most in the nation.

The Trojans were about to sign their worst class in a generation and instead ended up with a top 15 group that could have been higher if more scholarships were available.

The other USC (or the original USC?) South Carolina also had a huge day. Picked up ESPN 300 prospects ATH Chris Lammons, CB Wesley Green, DT Dexter Wideman and three-star DT Blake McClain. The Gamecocks jumped eight spots in the rankings.

You gotta respect what the Head Ball Coach has done at South Carolina. He's definitely maxing out that program.

LSU inked a better class than USC and South Carolina, but those programs had huge signing days.
